The Magic of Tea

Tea has always been an important part of magic. The mundane brewing of lemon-and-ginger-infused cold remedies and the hedge witchcraft of reading tea leaves are widely known, but greater spells also rely on the same leaf. Here are some of the most important.

Tea mages, brew witches, and Ceylon sorcerers tend to range from hospitable homebodies to sophisticated socialites. Their spells reflect this. There are tea spells for healing the body and entertaining a crowd. Spells for rest. Spells for sustenance. And, of course, some spells weaponize tea and teatime treats.

On the Magic of Tea

I have found that no beverage is better suited to fostering peace than that brewed from the leaf of the tea plant. Alcohol is fighting man’s drink. Milk for babes. Wine may seem sophisticated, but if poorly made is a waste of the grape. I will stand for whiskey, occasionally, but tea suffers none of these flaws.

Brew it hot, serve it cold. Ice it, add milk, stir in sugar. The possibilities are endless. The young, the old, all can enjoy it. One day, dear reader, clever tinkerers will harness steam to drive their carts. Though men will be credited with this invention, it would never come to pass if their wives had not put the kettle on the boil.

And so, I set about collecting spells for the edification of fellow magi. My quest has taken me to various planes, worlds, and timelines. Although I set out to discover magic that created tea, transmuted it, or harnessed it in some way, my true discovery was this: that in every cup of tea is a little magic.
